Top YC London demo nights and adjacent founder evenings
A ranked list of the best Y Combinator-flavoured London demo nights and adjacent founder events — public listings only, no fabricated lineups.
Y Combinator does not have a permanent London office and is not running an office-led programme there. What London does have is a thick layer of YC-alumni-organised demo nights and YC-adjacent founder events. The best ones are organised by alumni who actively host community evenings; the worst ones are coworking-space "founders mixers" with no programme.
The good news: the public listings on Luma cover most of the worthwhile ones. Startup events in London is the cleaner cross-platform view if Luma's discovery is annoying you.
How the ranking works
I have weighted by:
- Quality of founder lineup. A demo night with three early-stage YC alumni demoing real product beats one with twelve founders flashing screenshots.
- Conversation density. Smaller rooms beat bigger rooms for actually meeting people.
- Signal-to-recruiter ratio. Some "founder events" are 60% recruiters and consultants. Skip those.
- Whether anyone you want to meet is plausibly there. This is the unfair criterion but it is the real one.
Why YC alumni demo nights win
When a London-based YC alumnus organises a demo night for the wider alumni community, two things happen: the demoing founders are filtered, and the audience is heavily other YC alumni and YC-curious operators. That single filter — alumni community, not "anyone who clicked RSVP" — changes the room.
The format is usually 4-6 short demos, ten minutes of Q&A each, then drinks. Two hours, no panel, home by ten. That is the right length for this format. The ones that try to be three-hour evenings with a keynote are worse.
Entrepreneur First, briefly
Not YC, but EF's London demo nights pull a similar crowd and the founders are typically more technical than at the average demo night. If you came for the AI-x-deep-tech audience, this is your event. Tickets sell quickly.
The honest summary on YC in London
YC stays a Bay Area-centric program. London has a YC alumni community. The two are related but not the same thing. The events that work are the ones where alumni who care about the local scene have done the organising. The events that do not work are the ones where someone has slapped "YC" on the marketing without alumni involvement.
Filter accordingly and you will have a much better evening.
Practical notes
- RSVP fast. The good ones cap at 80-150 and fill in a day or two.
- Bring printed business cards. People still take them and the AirDrop dance is awkward in a crowded room.
- If you are pre-product, do not pretend otherwise. The alumni audience can smell vapourware in three sentences.
- Stay til the end. The first 30 minutes is small talk; the conversations after the demos are where the value is.
- Aftermath: the post-event spillover at the nearest pub is often more useful than the event itself.
Where to look
- Startup events in London — broadest filter.
- Luma search "YC London" or "Founders" — but expect noise.
- Twitter/X for specific alumni who organise — they tend to announce on their own channels first.
Right. Six months of this and you will be on the alumni-adjacent list whether you like it or not, becuase the London ecosystem is small and people remember.

YC alumni demo nights when they happen are the best. Last one was excellent.

EF demo nights are fast becoming the better signal in London right now imho.

Hard agree on the recruiters and consultants warning. The generic "founders mixer" is a wasteland.

Antler London showcase is underrated. The pre-seed quality is genuinely high.

Vapourware sentence — yes, three sentences is generous. Two and they know.

Post-event pub spillover at the Lighterman post-Conduit demo nights is genuinely the best part.
