The best vegan restaurants in London for 2026, ranked

A 2026 ranking of London vegan restaurants — proper kitchens, no nonsense, the rooms that take vegan food seriously rather than as an afterthought.

Kate FletcherKate Fletcher·29 March 2026·3 min read·London

London vegan in 2026 is in the best place it has ever been. The wave of "fancy vegan" has properly matured (Mallow, Tendril, Holy Carrot), the casual end has settled into a strong canon (Mildred's, Andu, Vegan Yes), and the vegan-pub category is somehow now a real thing.

This is the working list. I am not a vegan, my partner is, and we have eaten through the city together over the past year. If you are a non-vegan reading this thinking it will be sad food — I promise you, it is not. Go to Bubala or Mallow and tell me afterwards.

For vegan supper clubs and plant-based pop-ups, the London food events feed catches them.

1. Mallow

Mildred's sister restaurant at Borough Market. Properly grown-up vegan cooking, the small plates are mental, the cocktails are easily the best in the category. The smoked aubergine and the mushroom dumplings are the orders. The room is the right kind of warm and the service is sharper than most non-vegan rooms in the area.

This is the date-night vegan in London.

2. Bubala

Vegetarian, technically, not strictly vegan — but the menu is mostly vegan and the kitchen will adapt the rest. The hummus and laffa is one of the best plates of food in London full stop, the cauliflower with whipped feta is the second order, and the room is mental. Both branches are excellent.

3. Tendril

Mayfair plant-based tasting room. Set tasting menu, properly creative, and the room is grown-up in a way most vegan rooms still struggle to be. The carrot dish is the showpiece. Booking necessary.

4. Holy Carrot

Knightsbridge / Belgravia, the OG of "London vegan goes fancy". The mushroom carpaccio is a benchmark dish — paper-thin slices, properly seasoned, the kind of plate I have served to meat-eaters who left wanting the recipe.

5. Mildred's

The vegetarian institution that turned mostly vegan in 2018 and got better for it. Soho is the original and still the best of the four branches. The bacon burger (fake bacon, real burger satisfaction) is the most ordered plate of mine and has been for over a decade.

6. The Spread Eagle

Fully vegan pub in Homerton. The fried "chicken" burger is properly mental and the chips are some of the best in any pub in the city. The fact that it is a pub-pub — proper beer list, dog-friendly, has a quiz on a Tuesday — is the trick.

7. Plates

Hoxton plant-based room with a tasting menu and a creative streak. The "no fish and chips" — coconut-battered banana blossom, malt vinegar gel, properly thick chips — is the showpiece. Worth the journey.

8. Sutton & Sons (vegan branches)

Vegan chippy. The "fish" is somehow convincing — the texture is right, the batter is correct, the malt vinegar does the work. The rest of the menu (mushy peas, vegan curry sauce, the lot) is properly chippy-grade. Stoke Newington and Islington branches.

9. Andu Cafe

Tiny Ethiopian café in Dalston. Single dish — the vegan platter — and it is one of the best £8 meals in London full stop. Walk-in, cash easier than card, room is tiny. This is the cheap-and-mental hero of the list.

10. Vegan Yes

Highbury vegan Italian. The carbonara is the move — mushroom-based, no fake bacon, no apologies — and the cacio e pepe is genuinely properly good. The room is small, the service is friendly, and the wine list is short and correct.

Worth knowing

A few near-misses. Cafe Van Gogh in Brixton is a community-run vegan cafe doing properly good work and would be top twelve on a longer list. By Chloe is now a chain and is off this list on principle. Wulf and Lamb is fine but lacks the magic of the rest of the list.

How I use the list

Date night: Mallow or Bubala. Tasting menu showpiece: Tendril. Saturday afternoon casual: Mildred's or The Spread Eagle. Cheap and mental: Andu Cafe. Birthday with mixed crowd: Bubala (mixed eaters will not notice or care).
