The 9 best networking events for London finance professionals in 2026

Kate Fletcher ranks the genuinely useful networking events for London finance — banking, hedge funds, fintech, private equity. Where the bankers actually go, where they pretend to.

Kate FletcherKate Fletcher·8 April 2026·4 min read·London

Right. London finance networking, 2026. The brief: where do the actual fund managers, IB associates, fintech founders and PE folks go to network, and where are they pretending to. The honest list is short and most of the value is in recurring events you've probably ignored.

The pattern that matters: the highest-signal finance events in London are the proper trade-body events (CFA, BVCA, Innovate Finance) and the recurring smaller-format ones (CityWire, Level39, the Quant Group). The £2,000-a-ticket "exclusive C-suite" things you get spammed about are almost always the lowest signal — paid attendance does not equal serious attendance.

The trade-body tier

CFA Society London runs the most consistent finance event programme in the city. Multiple events a week — research presentations, sector deep-dives, ethics CPD, the lot. Member tickets are £20, non-member £45, and the rooms are full of actual portfolio managers and analysts because they need the CPD hours. The post-event drinks are quietly the best buy-side networking in London.

Innovate Finance Global Summit at Guildhall every April is the trade body event for UK fintech. The agenda is regulator-heavy (FCA, Treasury, Bank of England all show up) and the bank-and-fintech crossover is the actual value — most fintech founders selling into banks meet their first procurement contact here.

BVCA Summit in October is the British PE/VC version. The room is heavily LP, GP and operating-partner. Worth it if you're fundraising, hunting for an operating role, or trying to sell to PE-backed companies.

The press-led tier

Money 20/20 Europe is the serious one. It's technically held in Amsterdam but the London payments and fintech crowd dominates the attendee list. £2k+ a ticket but if you're selling into payments infrastructure or banks, the heads-of-payments at every major European institution are there.

Sifted Fintech Summit is the smaller, London-focused, founder-heavy version. £600, much more startup-y energy, useful if you're building fintech rather than buying it.

FT Live: Investment Management runs four times a year and remains the best buy-side conference for actually meeting the people who decide what to allocate. Expensive but the panels here are unusually good — partly because the FT can convince people to actually say something.

The recurring smaller-format tier

CityWire Wealth Manager events are the under-the-radar move for anyone selling product into wealth and IFA networks. Recurring monthly, invite-only, ferociously well-attended by the actual buyers. If your business model touches private wealth, get on the list.

Level39 in Canary Wharf still hosts the best free fintech meetups in London. Mixed-stage (founders, scaleups, bank innovation teams), high signal, recurring weekly-ish. Sign up to the mailing list and just keep showing up.

London Quant Group is the hedge-fund quant scene. Members-only, mostly senior quants and PMs from Citadel, Two Sigma, Man Group, the various smaller pods. Hard to crash, properly useful if you can — it's where the actual quant gossip happens, which is the entire point.

The unofficial tier

For analyst-tier and associate-tier finance, most of the actual networking is in pubs, not events. Coq d'Argent, the Counting House, the Cock Tavern in Liverpool Street. Wednesday and Thursday nights, City pubs, mid-tier banks, that's where junior banker networking actually happens. There's no calendar for it, you just have to be there.

Similarly, the hedge-fund and PE side has informal Mayfair drinks circuits that aren't on any list — Annabel's, the bar at Claridge's, the back room of Scott's. If you're not already inside that circuit, an event won't get you in. The events feed people into the circuit but don't replace it.

What I've left off

The big "leadership summit" formats with £2,000-£3,000 tickets — almost always low signal, full of consultants and recruiters posing as senior. The "exclusive dinner" formats sponsored by recruiters or law firms — same problem, just lower volume. Most LinkedIn-marketed networking — pure noise.

The "Davos-on-Thames" format people keep trying to launch in London — never works, can't recommend any of them. London doesn't actually have a finance Davos and the attempts to manufacture one always feel forced.

How I'd actually plan a quarter

Pick one trade-body event you'll attend every time (CFA monthly, Innovate Finance annually, or BVCA if you're PE). Add one annual flagship (Money 20/20 or FT Live). Add one recurring smaller-format (Level39 fintech or CityWire). Skip the £2k flagships unless you're actively raising or actively selling. The maths is the same as for any other industry: recurring smaller events beat one-off flagships for relationship building.

For finding the recurring ones plus the satellite events, the London networking events page is the easiest way to filter by sector. Filter by finance, sort by recurring, and you'll find the actually useful ones in about thirty seconds.

You'll be fine.

FAQ

Which event has the most fund managers?
The CFA Society London events still pull the heaviest fund-manager crowd. After that, Money 20/20 Europe (held in Amsterdam but hosted by London) and the Sifted Fintech Summit.
What about IB analysts and associates?
CityWire events, the FT Live calendar, and the unofficial Bank Wednesday drinks. Most of the analyst-tier networking is just pubs, not events.
Are paid finance events worth it?
CFA, FT Live and Money 20/20 — yes if you're actively recruiting or fundraising. The £2,000-a-ticket "exclusive" ones are mostly press-release bait.
