Top things to do in Berlin — week of 13 April
Twelve actually-good things in Berlin this week. Two demo nights worth showing up to, the Ramp on a Saturday, and a Sunday open-air that is not yet full of tourists.
April in Berlin is the month where the city remembers it has an outside. Open-airs are coming back, the beer gardens have actual beer in them, and everyone you know is suddenly available again.
I keep this list on Rifio so it stays fresh — the Berlin this-week page gets updated daily and the search is genuinely better than scrolling Luma.
Monday: a rare positive Monday
Monday in Berlin is normally dead but this week the Mitte chapter of Papers We Love is meeting at Factory Berlin, 19:00, free, two papers, one beer per attendee. Useful even if you do not understand the second paper.
If that sounds boring, the free Berlin tech meetups list has a couple of others.
Tuesday: pub trivia at Hopfenreich
Hopfenreich do a Tuesday quiz, English-language, 2 EUR per team. The pub is the best beer bar in Kreuzberg and the trivia is harder than it should be, particularly the music round, particularly when it is German indie.
We came third last week. We will come third this week.
Wednesday: Berlin AI demo night, Factory Berlin
Eight startups, eight minutes each, free pizza. The bar is the floor below so you can leave when something is bad and come back when something is good.
I expect at least two of the eight to be a wrapper around someone else's API. That is not the point. The point is the after-room, where the actual conversations happen.
Thursday: Sisyphos garden opening night
Sisyphos has been doing soft Sundays since March but Thursday is the first proper "we are open" night for the season. Free entry before 22:00, 15 EUR after, the door is friendly because it is opening week. Mega line-up, the sound on the second floor was rebuilt over winter.
Friday: KitKat early or Watergate
Two paths.
- KitKat fetish-light Friday — yes really. The early door is the move, get there before midnight, leave before 03:00. Dress code is real, do not turn up in a tshirt.
- Watergate floor 2 — for the people who do not want to think about what to wear. 15 EUR, decent line-up, river view if you can get to the back.
Saturday: the Ramp open-air
Opening weekend energy. The Ramp is concrete, the sound is sharp, the bar is cash-only and the queue moves fast. 12 EUR door, in by 23:00 if you want a drink before things kick off.
Bring a hoodie, the wind off the Spree at 04:00 is no joke. Definately worth it.
Sunday: Sisyphos garden until you cannot
If you have any energy left, Sisyphos garden is open from 14:00 and the food is good enough to count as a meal. There is normally one ambient set on the small floor in the afternoon that is the best thing nobody talks about.
If you are mortal: brunch at the place near Boxhagener Platz that has eggs and silence. You earned it.
That is the list. Twelve things, one week, one survivable plan. Save the ones you want on Rifio — the free events filter is genuinely useful for filling the in-between nights.
