Damon Tighe is a biotechnology educator and Naturalist in the SF Bay Area. He worked on the human genome project, has been involved in describing new mushroom species in California, and has been a major contributor to community science through the iNaturalist platform where he has made over 100,000 observations.
Fungal Diversity in California The California Fungal Diversity Survey started in 2023 to broadly document the diversity of fungi across California by creating modern fungarium collections with DNA sequencing. Mini mushrooms in California have historically been called the wrong species as we applied European names two things that looked similar to them in California. The project has elucidated many new species and helped us to understand species of concern in a changing climate.
