The Artist's Room | Week One

by Personal

About this event

Are you a burned out or discouraged creative, or someone who has always dreamed of being an artist but isn’t sure where to start? Join us in The Artist's Room, a weekly group going through Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way — one of the most beloved creative unblocking programs ever written. Whether you're returning to an artistic discipline (be it writing, music, dance, acting, hula hooping, worm charming, etc.) or just beginning, it’s time to pick up that copy of The Artist’s Way that’s collecting dust on your bookshelf and bring it to Pluto! Over 12 weeks, you can expect creative breakthroughs, the occasional resistance, and the tools and lessons you need to establish a real artistic practice. In this session, we're sharing what Week One stirred up. New to the group? Dip into Week One before you come — there's no wrong way to have done it. Joanne & Lily are excited to offer you a space to check in, get unstuck, and reclaim your creative life. Meet your facilitators Joanne Szilagyi is a professional actress with leading roles in indie film and theatre, who trained at HB Studio in New York City and The Second City in Toronto. Joanne also holds a Master's degree in Creative Writing from Oxford University. She has been in residence at the Banff Centre for Arts & Creativity and the Iowa Writers' Workshop, and her literary work has been supported by grants from the Toronto Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts. With The Artist's Room, she hopes to return to writing after a 3-year lull — and finally finish her first novel. Lily Yan is a mindfulness educator, holistic facialist at Trove Wellbeing, guide at Othership, and orbit guardian at Pluto. With a background spanning wellness, storytelling, and hands-on healing, she has spent years creating spaces to support authentic transformation from the inside out. Lily brings that same quality of presence and care to The Artist's Room — here to offer support and walk alongside you as you reconnect with your creativity and find your way back to your true self. After years of holding space for others, Lily is also showing up for her own creative life — and looking forward to seeing what these 12 weeks unlock for her too. *We’re happy to provide a hybrid in-person/online option for future meetings if there is interest Cover photo: "The Atmospheric River" by Ariana Papademetropoulos
