In celebration of International Women's Day, we are having a Women in AI Safety event!
We want to feature inspiring women who are working on AI Safety, have them share about the innovative work they are doing, and provide advice for how other women can get into the field.
Our event will feature the following speakers:
Tan Zhi Xuan (Assistant Professor in the National University of Singapore)Sun Sun Lim (Vice President, Partnerships & Engagement and Lee Kong Chian Professor of Communication and Technology at Singapore Management University) Sharmini Johnson (Senior Manager, AI Governance and Safety at IMDA)Leanne Tan (Data Scientist in GovTech's AI Practice (Responsible AI) team)
Each speaker will be giving a short talk about their work, and we will then have a panel discussion where the audience will get to ask questions to the speakers as well.

About the Speakers:
Tan Zhi Xuan is an Assistant Professor in the National University of Singapore, Department of Computer Science, with a joint appointment at the A*STAR Institute of High Performance Computing. Xuan's research focuses on scaling cooperative intelligence via rational AI engineering, spanning the areas of AI alignment, probabilistic programming, and computational cognitive science.
Sun Sun Lim is Vice President, Partnerships & Engagement and Professor of Communication and Technology at Singapore Management University. She has written extensively on the social impact of technology, including Transcendent Parenting: Raising Children in the Digital Age and Humanising Technology: Reflections on Design, Ethics and Inclusion. She was Nominated Member of Parliament from 2018-2020 and a Top 50 Asia Women Tech Leaders 2024 honoree. She has a Master and PhD from the London School of Economics and an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Copenhagen.
Sharmini Johnson is part of the AI Governance team in IMDA that works with local and international partners to shape AI norms. She works on AI regulation, policy and technical testing work for industry. Part of her work also entails capabilities development on AI. Prior to her current role, Sharmini was the Lead Strategist for Futures in both the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Digital Development and Information. Her role included sense-making for a broad range of economic and digital issues such as societal inclusion and impact on work. Sharmini began her civil service career over two decades ago, as an Education Officer in school as well as in the Ministry of Education.
Leanne Tan is a Data Scientist in GovTech Singapore’s AI Practice (Responsible AI) team, where she builds capabilities in AI safety and evaluations. Her work focuses on developing guardrails, benchmarks and tools to ensure responsible development and deployment of LLM applications in the government.
