About this event
Casual Readers Club and Northstar Politics join forces for a collaborative book club exploring The River Between by Kenyan author and academic Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o. At 160 pages it’s a sliver of a book, meaning you can be the most casual of readers and still make it through the pages in time for our meeting.
The River Between explores life on the Makuyu and Kameno ridges of Kenya in the early days of white settlement. Faced with an alluring, new religion and "magical" customs, the Gikuyu people are torn between those who fear the unknown and those who see beyond it.
Our Hosts
Northstar Politics is the people platform pushing political imagination beyond Westminster by unpacking the politics in culture, the arts and more.
Casual Readers Club is a storytelling platform and an IRL reading community built on the idea that reading is a communal practice. The club celebrates storytelling in all its forms: from book club discussions and theatre trips to film previews and salon discussions. Their mission is to provide rich art and cultural experiences for the community — celebrating Black, Brown and traditionally underrepresented voices. Pulsar
Pulsar is a free, open-access learning space for young people across creative disciplines. We host participatory workshops designed to leave you with something tangible: a skill, a method, or a new way of thinking you can carry into your personal or professional practice.
