Is it possible to remove the social media feeds from our lives? Should we want to?

by Philosofriends

About this event

Social media feeds have become the background noise of modern life. We wake up and scroll. We wait and scroll. Moments that once contained boredom, reflection, or conversation are now filled with an endless stream of updates, opinions, and distractions. Many people say they dislike this constant flow of information, yet very few leave it behind. Platforms promise connection, discovery, and community, but they also compete aggressively for attention. Algorithms decide what we see, shaping our perception of the world while quietly turning our time and focus into a product. This raises a simple question: could we actually remove social media feeds from our lives? And if we could, would that make life better, or would we lose something important along the way? This month, we’ll explore the role social media feeds play in how we think, communicate, and relate to others. Are they useful tools that became slightly addictive, or systems intentionally designed to capture as much attention as possible? Would removing them give us back freedom and clarity, or would it disconnect us from the digital spaces where much of modern life now happens? Note: All the paid tickets are equivalent. Just choose the one you like the most. We are Philosofriends, a group of ordinary people who enjoy discussing philosophy, technology, and other unconventional ideas. We meet once a month to chat, laugh, and make new friends who share our interest in engaging conversations.
