Join artist, designer and tailor Asaad Bruno (AB) for a hands-on introduction to chainstitch embroidery using an industrial machine—a niche form of textile customization often described as tattooing on fabric.

Learning chainstitch embroidery while working as a denim tailor at Levi’s, AB offers now the customization service through his personal studio Güsto and during live event activations in various settings—working with Nike, SFMOMA, and routinely at Oakland Roots SC home games at the Oakland Coliseum as a resident artist of 4+ years.

In this workshop, participants will learn the fundamentals of chainstitch embroidery and collaborate with AB to bring a name/word, or simple graphic design to life on clothing, accessories, or a custom patch. Participants will be able to experiment with the machine and assist in the process of AB executing the final embroidery.

Workshop Details

Ages: 16+Capacity: 6-7 participantsCost: $225 per person

No materials are required but notepad is recommended.

Participants are welcome to bring an item to have embroidered—ideally made of a stiff woven fabric (denim jacket, tote bag, etc.) or a thick knit fabric (sweater, beanie, etc.).

We will be embroidering a cursive word or simple flash graphic (some designs will be provided), with multiple thread colors available.

Please arrive ~15min prior to the workshop start time for introductions and set-up.
