The Private Capital Governance Program (Venture Capital Cohort) is coming to Toronto for its in-person sessions at the Highline Beta Hub.
Delivered by the Canadian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (CVCA) in partnership with the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD), this program is designed for venture capital investors, independent directors, and CEOs who serve on the boards of venture-backed companies. The program focuses on strengthening governance practices and equipping participants with the tools needed to guide companies through critical boardroom decisions.
The program combines online learning with interactive discussions, case analysis, and in-person sessions where participants engage with peers and experienced faculty. Together, the cohort explores real governance challenges faced by venture-backed companies and develops practical approaches to addressing them.
What participants will explore
Participants will deepen their understanding of governance in venture-backed organizations, including how to:
• Navigate potential conflicts that arise on venture-backed boards• Strengthen board processes that support long-term strategic value• Manage difficult board decisions such as CEO transitions, financing disagreements, acquisitions, or company exits• Apply best practices drawn from current governance research and real industry experience
Format
This program is delivered through a blended format that includes:
• Self-directed online learning• Live virtual sessions• Two days of in-person programming in Toronto (April 29–30)

Participants typically have prior experience serving as directors or observers on venture-backed company boards.
