Gotong Royong @ Lorong AI (ft. Lorong Builders & Openclaw)

Join us for the inaugural Gotong Royong — a day where the community comes together to tackle their AI challenges together. What's Happening 4pm - 6pm: OpenClaw Setup with the Lorong Builders OpenClaw achieved remarkable success, growing from zero to 300,000 GitHub stars within weeks and earning headlines describing it as "AGI in your pocket." Users report that it can negotiate insurance claims, manage calendars, and debug distributed systems, all through WhatsApp messages. While the demos appear magical and some dismiss it as hype, the reality lies between these extremes. Beneath its impressive exterior, OpenClaw operates on a well-engineered but fundamentally simple pipeline: it receives messages from chat applications, assembles relevant context, calls a language model, and executes actions based on the response. This core loop of message input, intelligence application, and action output forms the foundation of all current AI agent products, spanning from personal assistants to enterprise automation platforms. The workshop aims to demystify this technology by building the same loop from scratch. Participants will create a basic Telegram chatbot powered by a large language model, with a coding agent handling the implementation to eliminate the need for prior programming experience. By the session's conclusion, each participant will possess both a functional bot accessible from their phone and, crucially, a concrete understanding of how systems like OpenClaw actually operate. More About the People The Lorong Builds Community is a group of like-minded hobbyists and practitioners who are keen to nurture a community of builders within Lorong AI, collectively exploring emerging technologies and building projects together. They hope to make this a space for safe learning, connecting people with similar interests, and encouraging curiosity and innovation. More About the Series Gotong Royong (go-tong ro-yong) is a traditional Malay concept whereby people living in a kampong (village) do things together and help each other in the spirit of goodwill and reciprocity. This series brings that spirit to Lorong AI as we create regular opportunities for the Lorong AI community to tackle challenges collectively. When we learn, troubleshoot and build together, everyone progresses faster.
