Climbing has always been about our relationship with the environment. We’ll start by tracing the roots of "clean climbing", a philosophy focused on leaving no trace by using removable/reusable equipment in outdoor climbing. From there, we’ll traverse into a review of the gear and equipment we use every day in the indoor climbing industry.
This isn't a lecture. It’s a community conversation starter. We’ll look at the "hidden" impacts of our sport and brainstorm how we can push for a more circular climbing economy.
What We’ll Cover:
The Hardware: The transition from traditional polyurethane holds to innovative, recyclable alternatives. The Soft Goods: The environmental impact of creating/using gear and how we can breathe new life into retired gear through upcycling. The Air We Breathe: Discussing the footprint of indoor facilities, from chalk filtration systems to the additives found in rubber dust. The Personal Footprint: The benefits of resoling your rubber and repairing your technical apparel to keep gear out of landfills.
