Marina is an award-winning journalist and author who has spent her career examining power, innovation and the systems that shape women’s lives.
Her book, The Vagina Business, is a sharp, eye-opening exploration of how women’s health has been historically overlooked, misunderstood and underfunded, and how a new generation of founders, investors and advocates is reshaping the future. Drawing on global reporting, personal stories and rigorous research, Marina brings clarity, wit and urgency to a topic that affects everyone, yet is still rarely discussed openly.

About the Author, Marina Gerner
Marina Gerner is an award-winning journalist with a wide-ranging career in writing about business, culture, technology, and women’s health. She has contributed to various prestigious publications, including The Guardian, The Economist, Financial Times, Wired, and The Times Literary Supplement. Her work often explores topics such as finance, ethics, and human behaviour, as well as the intersection of technology and society. As an Adjunct Professor of NYU London, she teaches courses related to commerce & culture.
Marina received a rarified education, having studied at globally renowned institutions such as the University of Manchester and LSE, where she completed her PhD. Her early career included roles such as Researcher at University of Oxford, Editorial Intern at The Economist, and Staff Writer at Money Observer. Marina is also known for her in-depth interviews with leading figures in the finance and investment sectors, particularly through her work with Morningstar, where she conducts "13 Questions" interviews with fund managers, exploring their strategies, insights on cryptocurrency, and market trends.
In 2024, Marina published “The Vagina Business” – a groundbreaking book that analyses the technologies that can revolutionise the women’s health sector. This work focuses on innovations in women’s health and female-centric technology, drawing from interviews with over 100 entrepreneurs, researchers, and investors across 15 countries. The book aims to spotlight advancements in areas like fertility, menopause, and heart health, advocating for more investment and research in women's healthcare. The book has been featured in Financial Times Business Books of the Month list & The Bookseller – an incredible feat.
Marina has received significant recognition for her contributions to journalism and literature, including a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to support her research on “The Vagina Business”. She was also named one of the 200 Trailblazing Leaders in Women’s Health & FemTech by Women of Wearables in 2023 in addition to being invited to speak at the WomenTech Global Conference. Often invited to speak for platforms such as BBC World Service, Women in Tech and the Women of Wearables FemTech Conference. Marina Gerner is a highly sought-after keynote speaker and is now available to hire for events related to technology, female health & wellbeing.
