Come join your fellow PEFers for a private in-person fireside chat with Courtney Hohne. Courtney was a leader at Google X, Google's famous Moonshot Factory, since the beginning and architected their radical culture of innovation and creativity. She thinks no problem is too big for a team to solve, especially if it's important to the world. And all of the Waymos making the streets of SF safer seem to prove her right!
What We're Going to Talk About
Many PEFers struggle with the question of what to do next. A lot of us are looking to tackle more ambitious or more impactful problems for our next venture, but it can be hard to know where to begin. Courtney lives and breathes figuring out what to build next and why, and will give us her perspectives on:
Lessons learned from 10+ years at Google X, and how she refined their processes to build technology that's truly innovative, not just incrementalGiving your team (and yourself) the right kind of space and support to explore and experiment, and how to know when to move on to another ideaThe power of communication and storytelling in the innovation process. Both for getting others bought in to your idea, and for you yourself to truly understand what you're doing and why
How We Can Get Involved in Building What's Next
Since leaving Google X, Courtney has been working on an even more ambitious project, un/owned. Through un/owned, Courtney is tackling some of the biggest "unowned" problems in the world that don't fit into typical VC funding structures. These are problems that affect us all like keeping our soil infrastructure healthy, helping kids stay safe online, reducing fashion waste, and much more.
She's been staffing up a brilliant team of leaders, researchers, community builders, and more to get un/owned off the ground. Courtney is looking to meet more partners that can help them achieve their vision, especially when it comes to putting together a financial instrument for interested parties to invest in or donate to these important initiatives.
Event Logistics
We'll start the fireside chat promptly at 6:30pm, and we'll have some time for mingling and exchanging ideas before and after the talk. This is an open conversation between Courtney and our community, so bring your questions!
We'll have light food, drinks, and a great space to ourselves at Pillsbury's office near the Ferry Building. Come on by to learn from Courtney, exchange ideas with each other, and see how we can all get involved in supporting her important mission at un/owned.
