Critique #3: AI for Atom-scale Design

Community Critique #3 is a chance for Encode Fellows to pause half way through their 12-month build. ​What lessons have been learnt?​What strategies are being explored to scale the impact of their research?​What form could this take to go from lab > public by September? ​These questions can't be answered in isolation, so we're seeking your input. About this Critique: Designing new materials for energy and electronics is often a slow, trial-and-error process. Encode fellow Lars Schaaf is working with Professor Aron Walsh at Imperial College London to develop an AI platform for inverse materials design - starting with desired properties and generating structures to match. Using multimodal diffusion models trained on curated datasets, the system proposes candidates that are then tested in simulation and experiment. This research could accelerate the discovery of next-generation materials for clean energy and advanced technologies.
