EEC x alteva – Next-Gen Batteries to Rebuild Europe's Tech Leadership
About this event
Battery technology is becoming a strategic backbone of Europe’s economy. As electrification accelerates across transportation, industry, and energy systems, Europe remains exposed through external dependencies in materials, manufacturing, and key battery technologies.
This seminar focuses on the practical steps to rebuild Western battery technology leadership. The discussion centers on reducing reliance on externally controlled supply chains and developing high-performance, next-generation batteries that can be engineered, manufactured, and scaled in Europe.
The session is led by alteva, a deep-tech battery company developing ultralight battery systems for electric aviation and heavy-duty mobility. Drawing directly from hands-on development and commercialization work, the seminar connects strategic ambition with engineering reality — from material choices and system design to industrialization constraints and technological differentiation.
Speaker
Aiko Bernehed — Founder & CEO at alteva, developing and commercializing innovative ultralight batteries for electric aviation and heavy-duty mobility applications. Former Lead Developer for Project alteva at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), where the team pursued a DLR spin-off focused on battery materials and lightweight batteries for mobility applications.
