AI Filmmaking Hackathon, anyone?

by Lorong AI

About this event

AI filmmaking tools are everywhere now — and most of what they produce is often dismissed and labelled as ’slop'. This is a hands-on session exploring the gap between ‘slop’ output and work that's actually specific, culturally grounded, and professionally usable — particularly within Singapore and ASEAN production contexts. And making a community push towards AI content that is, hopefully, not ‘slop’. We'll dig into collaborative methods that help filmmakers use AI in a team framework. Think lab, not lecture: participants work in teams on time boxed solutioning they can hopefully take back to their projects. 🎬 What You'll Work On Build Your Anti-Slop Detector (30 min) Interactive challenge to identify AI slop versus AI-enhanced craft, collaboratively developing a framework to spot visual tells, narrative weaknesses, and conceptual failures in AI-generated content. Human Open-Source Bot Team Sprint (60 min) Form teams of 4-5 strangers and tackle a real production challenge using rotating-role methodology to create a 30-second short film concept that is NOT slop. Present Team Solutions Share your team's approach and learn from other groups' creative problem-solving. Apply Practical Workflows Learn to use AI as your intern, not your creative director, with techniques you can immediately implement in your own projects. This session emphasizes collaboration, fast iteration, and building collective intelligence around AI-enhanced production workflows. ⚠️ Important Notes AI Filmmaking Tool Subscription Required - Working AI tool access mandatory (Claude/ChatGPT Pro, Midjourney, or your preferred AI filmmaking tools). No expired trialsDon't hoard your subscription credits: contribute your compute power to team effortsBring a laptop with internet accessAll experience levels welcome, but come ready to collaborate and experimentIn the event of oversubscription, Lorong AI members will be prioritized 🗣️ Facilitated by Gavin Lim (AI Film Lab) Gavin Lim is founder of AI Film Lab, a Future of Work community exploring the intersection of AI technology and visual storytelling. A seasoned TV producer, director, and filmmaker with nearly thirty years of experience, Gavin leads practical exploration of AI tools that enhance rather than replace human creative judgment. AI Film Lab has conducted AI filmmaking hackathons with Singapore media practitioners and led the first AI filmmaking hackathon at the Philippines' inaugural AI Festival (2025). Their approach centres on iteration over perfection and collaborative learning over isolated expertise. *As the programme is still being finalised, do note that details are subject to change. More About the Series FaiGHT CLUB is a monthly AI filmmaking lab bringing together professional filmmakers, creatives, and producers for hands-on exploration of AI tools that enhance rather than replace human craft. Each session tackles a specific production challenge through collaborative team sprints, guest case studies, and practical workflow development. This inaugural session focuses on "FAiGHT SLOP": learning to identify and eliminate generic AI outputs in favour of culturally grounded, professionally viable work. Future sessions will continue exploring different aspects of AI-enhanced filmmaking through the same lab-based, collaborative approach. Fri-DIYs is Lorong AI's hands-on technical workshop series focused on learning by building. Sessions are structured around hands-on exercises and guided projects, giving participants time to experiment with AI technologies in a focused, collaborative environment. Get involved: Learn more about Lorong AI | Speaker Sign-up | WhatsApp Community | LinkedIn | X
