Join us during Climate Week for an afternoon with the Amazon Conservation Team (ACT), where we’ll explore how Indigenous knowledge and innovative technology come together to protect some of the world’s most critical ecosystems and the cultures that have stewarded them for generations.
Across the Amazon rainforest and beyond, ACT works alongside Indigenous communities to strengthen territorial governance, support forest monitoring, and protect intact ecosystems that are vital to the global climate. A growing part of this work involves combining traditional knowledge with advanced tools such as satellite imagery, participatory mapping, and real-time monitoring systems.
These technologies allow Indigenous communities to map and monitor their territories, identify threats such as illegal mining or logging, and protect areas that remain among the most biodiverse and least disturbed forests on Earth. They are also critical for safeguarding regions inhabited by Indigenous Peoples in Voluntary Isolation, where protection depends on early detection of threats and strong territorial protection.
The event will feature a short presentation highlighting how ACT and Indigenous partners use satellite data, mapping technologies, and community-based monitoring to protect millions of hectares of forest, followed by an open discussion about the future of conservation technology and Indigenous-led climate solutions.
Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
