What is idealist?
The world is hurting, people are lonely, and it’s becoming harder to make friends. We want to build community, connect with strangers and make life better through kindness and friendship.
Who is running this?
**This is a non-political, non-religious, unfunded global movement that focuses on the human side of humanity — connection through kindness.**
How many people are involved?
This is a global movement with over 5,000 people across 83 countries. This is the Brum and West Midlands initiative to bring people together.
What’s the plan?
Once a month, we do something to make our little corner of the world better. This time, we’re hosting a “come as you are” FREE meet-up for coffee and tea giving people a chance to get to know each other at Hive Café and Bakery. Future events may include volunteering or fun, community-based activities. While it starts at 11:30am, please feel free to pop in at any point during those 2 hours and stay as long as you’d like! There are no requirements or expectations. If you are a human being of any kind, you are welcome. The Hive Café and Bakery is also wheelchair accessible.
Will there be food and drink?
We will have FREE coffee, tea, and biscuits available. If you would prefer something more substantial, a unique snack or an espresso-based coffee, you are more than welcome to purchase a delicious meal or treat at the café. I will post the menu closer to the date.
What do I do now?
Please register so we have an idea of numbers. This helps us ensure there's enough coffee, tea and biscuits and so you are able to receive updates on the event.
I can't take the time off from work to attend — can I still connect?
We will be meeting virtually on 5/5 with others across the UK via Google Meet from 6:00pm-7:00pm. Please sign up here: https://luma.com/lmyscj5mIf you can't make that either, please fill out this short Google Form: https://forms.gle/n4fZrn3s1yJ4xEXe6 with your contact info and I can forward our monthly info. Can you tell me more about The Hive Café and Bakery?
The Hive operates as a social enterprise providing valuable work experience and training opportunities for students at next door's Ruskin Mill Trust's Argent College. The college helps 16 to 25 year olds with special educational needs, including those on the autistic spectrum, to learn a trade while developing personal and social skills. Some of these students undertake work experience at The Hive Café, gaining confidence for when they leave and get jobs elsewhere. All of their food is connected to Argent College's biodynamic rooftop garden microfarm.
