Edinburgh startup events and meetups in 2026
A ranked list of the Edinburgh startup events and meetups honestly worth your time in 2026 — from TechMeetup at CodeBase to the Informatics Forum demos and the Founders' Friday lunches.
Edinburgh's startup scene in 2026 is in a quietly good place. CodeBase has stayed the institutional anchor, the University spin-out pipeline is the strongest in Scotland by a margin, and there are now three regular founder lunches that exist where five years ago there was nothing. The events that have lasted are the ones that earned it. Here is the ranked list.
If you want a calendar of Edinburgh startup events this week, the startup events page has the lot in one place.
1. TechMeetup at CodeBase — the unbeatable starter meetup
The one I send anyone new to the Edinburgh scene. Free with RSVP, free pizza from the place down on Lothian Road, three short talks, the room is the right size to chat to two strangers without it being weird. It runs the third Wednesday of every month and it has been going long enough that the format is genuinely sharpened — talks are 12 minutes, the host enforces it, and the Q&A is moderated.
Best for: anyone new to Edinburgh tech, anyone wanting a low-stakes evening, anyone who prefers a small room over a hall.
The crowd is engineers, a handful of founders, and reliably one or two folks from CodeBase's in-house investment team who actually want to chat after the talks rather than skipping out at 8.
2. Informatics Forum demos — the academic AI window
The University of Edinburgh's Informatics Forum is one of the strongest AI research clusters in the UK and the termly demo evening is genuinely the most cutting-edge thing in the city. Free RSVP, runs three times a year, the work is from current PhD students and postdocs and a handful of spin-out founders.
The talks are alot more technical than TechMeetup but the room is generous to questions from non-academics. Best for: ML and AI engineers, anyone curious about the spin-out pipeline, anyone wanting to scout deep-tech early.
A small thing — the building is a labyrinth and the talks always start in a different lecture theatre. Allow ten minutes to find it.
3. EIE Edinburgh — the proper investor showcase
Scotland's biggest tech investor showcase, runs annually at the McEwan Hall in May. Application-based for founders, ticketed for everyone else. Fifty companies pitching, several hundred investors, and the room has been the launching point for some of Scotland's biggest tech raises of the last five years.
The standard varies year to year but the curation is honest. Best for: later-stage founders raising series A or B, investors looking at Scottish deal flow, anyone who wants a single day that gives you a snapshot of the whole ecosystem.
The after-party is the actual networking and it is held at a venue that changes annually.
4. Founders' Friday lunches — the most useful invite
Six founders, a long lunch, a different cafe each week, costs split. Started by a couple of second-time founders three years ago and it has become the most reliably useful thing in my calendar. No agenda, no pitches, just a two-hour lunch where someone always says the thing you needed to hear.
It is invite-based but the way in is to show up to four TechMeetups in a row and just be normal. Best for: any founder past the first six months, anyone in Edinburgh long-term.
5. CodeBase Demo Day — recent residents showing the work
Quarterly, free RSVP, runs at CodeBase. Recent residents — usually six to ten companies — demo what they have shipped in the last three months. The format is tighter than EIE and the talks are about what is actually built rather than what is being raised.
Best for: anyone hiring, anyone scouting hires, anyone who wants to see what the local cohort is actually working on rather than what they say in pitch decks.
6. Bayes Centre AI talks — the serious monthly
The Bayes Centre's monthly is the more grown-up cousin of the Informatics Forum demos. One long talk — usually 50 minutes — from a researcher or an industry person, then a 30-minute Q&A. Free RSVP, the room is medium-sized and it always fills up.
Best for: anyone in applied AI, anyone working in research-adjacent industry roles. The Q&A is reliably the best part.
7. Edinburgh Product meetup — for the product crowd
Smaller than TechMeetup, runs monthly at CodeBase, free entry. Product managers, the occasional designer, the occasional engineer. The talks lean case-study and the bar after is friendlier than the average meetup.
Best for: product managers, anyone moving from engineering to product, anyone wanting a calmer evening.
8. Scottish EDGE Final — the big public pitch event
Scottish EDGE is Scotland's biggest startup pitch competition and the bi-annual final is held at the EICC. £15 a ticket, you watch finalists pitch for awards in the £25k–£150k range, and the room is a snapshot of the wider Scottish startup ecosystem rather than just Edinburgh.
Best for: anyone wanting to see the wider Scottish bench, anyone curious about non-tech-flavoured startups (food, fashion, hardware), anyone who wants a properly produced evening.
What is genuinly missing
A regular hardware meetup. Edinburgh has a strong robotics bench thanks to the University and Heriot-Watt, but the engineers do not have a regular monthly thing. If anyone wants to start one, the Edinburgh meetup list is the right place to advertise it.
A small reminder that all the free events in this list are pre-loaded with their next dates if you save them on Rifio. You will recieve a reminder the day before, which is alot less faff than checking three different RSVP forms manually.
If you only do one — TechMeetup at CodeBase. If you are raising — EIE in May, no question. If you are deep in AI — Informatics Forum or Bayes. The Edinburgh scene rewards consistency more than cleverness, and the people who show up regularly end up running the next thing themselves. That is, on balance, a healthy ecosystem and one I am quietly proud of.
