The best late-night spots in Amsterdam after 2am, ranked
Where to actually go in Amsterdam after 2am — proper late-night clubs, after-hours bars, kebab spots and the canal-side places that stay open. A 2026 working ranking.
Amsterdam after 2am is properly underrated. The reputation for shutting early is half-true — the standard bars do close around 1-3am — but the actual late-night scene is one of the more interesting in Europe once you know where to look. Shelter on a Sunday morning, Radion on a Saturday night, the NDSM dockyard afters when they happen.
This is the working list for spring 2026. I have been to most of these in the last three months and a couple are on the watchlist for the next update. If you disagree, comments. If you're new to the city, Shelter on Sunday is the move.
For the actual schedule of late-night events, the Amsterdam nightlife feed catches them.
1. Shelter
Underground techno club beneath the A'DAM Toren on the north side of the IJ. Sunday-morning sessions are the actual move — properly run till noon and beyond, the crowd is serious about the music, and the room is one of the best soundsystems in the city.
Weekend programming is mostly visiting international acts, weekday closing is variable. Check the lineup. Worth the ferry crossing.
2. Radion
Industrial space south of the centre, walking distance from Amstelstation. Saturday-night programming is consistently mental — the kind of bookings that you would expect from Berghain or fabric — and the back-room is properly hard. The bigger main room is more accessible.
Sunday afternoons here are also the move. The "Vandaag" parties are a proper Amsterdam tradition.
3. De Marktkantine
Old market hall turned club in the west. The Sunday sunset-into-night disco party is one of the proper Amsterdam traditions and is genuinely brilliant. Less serious than Shelter or Radion but more fun.
4. Garage Noord
Noord industrial space. Properly serious house and breakbeat programming, the terrace is the late-night summer move, and the crowd is mixed in the right way. Open till late on the right nights.
5. Paradiso (Late Late)
Yes, Paradiso, which most people think of as the indie venue. The late-late sessions and afterparties at the venue itself are properly fun and not the tourist disaster the daytime entrance makes it look. Worth checking specific listings.
6. Melkweg (Upstairs)
The upstairs room at Melkweg has properly underrated late-night programming. Mostly indie-leaning but with proper electronic nights mixed in. Worth checking the night-of listings — sometimes mental, sometimes mid.
7. TonTon Club
Arcade-bar in the centre that stays open later than it should. Pinball machines, drinks, properly mixed crowd that does not give a damn what time it is. The kind of place where you end up at 3am after a club closes.
8. Volkshotel (Canvas Rooftop)
Rooftop bar at the Volkshotel in the east. Open till 3am most nights, the view across the city is the best of any late-night spot in Amsterdam, and the cocktails are properly grown-up. The rooftop is open year-round but you want to be here in summer.
9. NDSM Werf afters
The NDSM dockyard hosts properly serious after-hours events at venues like NDSM Loods and the various warehouses. Sporadic, mostly Instagram-listed, but when they happen they are the proper Amsterdam after-hours experience. Worth following the right accounts.
10. Mannekenpis (frites)
Yes, fries. The 4am fries-with-mayo at Mannekenpis on Damrak is a proper Amsterdam late-night ritual and is the correct way to end a night. The location is touristy but the fries are genuine — fresh, double-fried, proper. Skip FEBO unless you are properly at the end of your wits.
Worth knowing
A few honest mentions. De School is sadly closed and is not coming back as De School. Trouw is also long gone. Closure has been on and off and I am not committing till the next update.
The non-club late-night scene — the proper bars that stay open till 3-5am — is thinner than people imagine. Most "late-night bars" actually shut at 2am. Shelter and Radion stay open and that is the play.
How I use the list
Saturday night: Radion or Garage Noord. Sunday morning: Shelter. Sunday afternoon disco: De Marktkantine. Casual late drink with the night already going: TonTon Club or Volkshotel rooftop. Properly hardcore after-hours: NDSM Werf afters when they happen. End of the night fries: Mannekenpis.
For the lineups and the one-off NDSM dock parties, save nightlife events on Rifio and they will surface in the weekly feed.
