The best first date spots in Dubai (2026)
Eight Dubai first-date spots ranked by a local: a quiet Jumeirah garden bar, a calm DIFC small-plates room, and the rooftop that does sunset without the photo crowd.
First dates in Dubai are a strange thing to plan. The headline restaurants are loud, photo-led and full of people performing. The hotel rooftops are the same with a worse drinks programme. The actual move is to pick a room that does not demand to be photographed and lets the conversation do the work.
Eight options below, sequenced from full dinner at the top to quick drink at the bottom. All are walkable from a metro stop or a sensible Uber.
I keep notes on which restaurants are running well in any given month on Rifio — the Dubai events page tracks new openings and weekly tasting menus.
1. BB Social DIFC
The default first date the regulars rely on. Asian small plates, AED 250-350 a head with two drinks, calm room, no DJ. The pacing of the food does the work — small plates arrive at a rhythm that gives the conversation room.
Book the 7:30 slot, request a corner table, you will have two hours of room to talk. If the date is going well, walk down to Trove afterwards for one drink. If it is not, the small-plates format gives you a clean exit at the end of the table.
2. The Jara at One&Only
Garden bar at One&Only Royal Mirage in Jumeirah. Palms, low lights, a piano, a Mediterranean drinks list. The most effortlessly romantic room in the city without ever being theatrical.
AED 200-300 a head with drinks and a small bite. Booking essential, the dress code is smart-casual leaning smart. The right room for a date you are taking seriously.
3. Trove
The dimly-lit speakeasy below ICD Brookfield. Drinks-only is the format here — it is not a dinner restaurant, the food is small and ancillary. AED 200-280 a head, two drinks, book a week ahead for Friday or Saturday.
Properly grown-up. The kind of room that telegraphs you have thought about where to take someone.
4. Cipriani Yas Marina
The 90-minute drive to Abu Dhabi is a real ask for a first date, and yet — if the date is the right kind of date, the drive is part of it. The terrace works winter-only (closed by April), the indoor room is comfortable year-round.
AED 350-450 a head. Booking essential. Order the carpaccio and the Bellini and let the room do the work.
5. 40 Kong sunset
Rooftop with a serious bar on the H Hotel. 6:30 to 8:30 is the window — the sunset, the drinks programme is well-trained, the food is honest. After 9 it gets busier than I would like, so the move is one drink here, then dinner somewhere quieter.
AED 150-220 a head for two drinks and a small bite. Book the early slot.
6. Akiba Dori
Japanese izakaya in d3. Calm, well-paced, the bar seats are the move — you sit side by side, watch the chefs, and the format is good for a first date because the food gives the conversation a steady rhythm without dominating it.
AED 250-320 a head. Booking essential for the bar. The Highball is the order at the basement bar after.
7. Mr. Toad's
The tiny English-style bar above a JBR side street. Twenty seats, walk-in only, AED 150-200 for two drinks and a snack. The Negroni is the order.
The right venue for a quick first drink, low-pressure, where you can decide in 45 minutes whether you want dinner. Get there before 8.
8. Time Out Market
The casual option. Souk Al Bahar, three counters, communal table, AED 130-180 a head, no booking. Walk in, pick three small plates from three different counters, eat at the bar, walk out.
Surprisingly good first-date format because there is zero pressure on either side. If it goes well, walk along the Burj Lake. If not, you have spent under AED 200 and one hour.
A few I am leaving off and you might wonder why.
The headline Marina rooftops, the Atlantis restaurants and most of the hotel sky-bars are exactly what they look like — loud, photo-led, full of bachelorette parties and not what you want for a first date. Save them for date three or a group dinner.
Sushisamba and Zuma are excellent restaurants but they are too busy and too loud for a first date. They are date-five-going-strong restaurants.
A note on dress: smart-casual at all eight. The Jara and Trove are the two where I would put a collared shirt on deliberately. Mr. Toad's and Time Out Market are the two where you can show up in jeans and feel correctly dressed.
Save the ones you fancy on Rifio. The Dubai events page lists the venues hosting wine tastings, supper clubs and seasonal menus, which are the second-date moves once the first one is going well.

FAQ
- Why no Atlantis or Marina rooftops?
- Photo-bait. The first thing you want on a first date is a room that does not demand to be photographed. Save the headline rooftops for date three.
- Drinks-only or full dinner?
- Drinks first if you are not sure yet. The list is sequenced from quick-drink venues at the bottom to full-dinner venues at the top.
- Is there a dress code?
- Smart casual at all eight. The Jara and Trèsind Studio are the only two where I would put deliberate effort in.
